City hires law firm to investigate Councilwoman Robertson's complaint

TEDESCO
Appearing on Talk1300 Saturday, Police Chief John Tedesco said the city hired an independent law firm to investigate a complaint filed by Councilwoman Anastasia Robertson, D-D-District 2, against Police Benevolent Association President Tom Hoffman.
The complaint revolves around statements Hoffman made at the September Council meeting. During the public forum section, Hoffman said Robertson was part of a crowd that was attempting to incite officers to use violence while they were recording the scene on their cell phones.
However, his rendition of the episode was debunked when Robertson produced her actual cell phone video showing that while tensions between the officers and the crowd were thick, Robertson was trying to calm things down. She released the video first to News Channel 6 and then held a press conference days later.
Tedesco said he was at the Council meeting and as such would be a witness in the investigation so the city opted to hire an outside law firm – Bailey, Kelleher and Johnson – rather than have Internal Affairs conduct the probe. Mayor Lou Rosamilia was also present.

He added that he hopes part of the investigation includes an attempt to locate additional video footage of the Aug. 30 incident.
On that day, officers were at a domestic incident involving a white woman and a black woman. Upon their arrival, the white woman left the scene while officers questioned the black woman in an effort to find out what was going on.
The crowd in the North Central neighborhood interpreted that as officers allowing the white woman to walk away while placing the black woman under arrest. Hoffman, who took over as president of the PBA when Bob Fitzgerald retired, said members of the crowd spit at officers and “tried to bait officers into a physical confrontation.”
Hoffman called on the city to investigate Robertson and Robertson filed her own complaint against Hoffman. The Times Union says she claimed Hoffman engaged in official misconduct, which is a misdemeanor.
Days earlier, Robertson enraged many by a posting on Facebook that stated there is a concerted and organized effort by white people to exterminate black people. She referred to this country as AmeriKKKa.

  1. Regardless of what Robertson said on the blog posting, Hoffman did not do his due diligence in identifying what truly happened. At least he is getting a proper investigation, collecting the facts. Something he obviously did not do before going public with his rant!

  5. After watching the hubbub over the tenants without water it's clear as why Troy is losing its population and tax base. Most of these poor unfortunates are jobless as is the good councilwomen and her legion of followers. We should change the name to "I'm entitled to everything free city".

    2. Correction...Robertson is not jobless, get your facts right. She is a councilwoman, this is a paid position in which she serves the people of her district. Even though the job may not pay very much, it is a full time gig. Don't get things twisted.

    4. Full time? Robertson was MIA for over a month and a half. Full time gig HA! They meet twice maybe three times a month to meet for 2 hours.

    5. Really thats her only job?? Since when is being a councilperson a full time job, I believe every other one has a job..That is why she has time to video nonsense and try and cause trouble.

    6. Then what happened to her full time job with the Albany School district ?

      Delete
    7. @1:52 she'd actually have to work at the councilperson job to validate your argument. Her TWO advisers are doing the work. If this is her idea of working full-time we want our money back.

    8. She doesn't have a full-time gig at Albany School District, isn't even on staff!! Besides she was only a substitute teacher. Surprise! Surprise!

    1. What's pathetic is a this group has turned on Lou who has been supportive of them. The new video shames and makes fun of our mayor who has donated money and attended all of the events this group of activists has produced. To promote Rodney and allow him to thrash the mayor on this video is shameless.

  10. The facts are yes there is a huge population of people from down state who don't have a pot to piss in nor a window to throw it out.
Most of them are stuck here and cant afford to move to greener pastures if there is such a thing.
Also hard times are a coming even worse than the 2008 crash its in the air desperate people in desperate times will do desperate things.
Compare it to the pit and the pendulum or one of Edgar Allen Poe's dark poems.
I just hope that the Governor in NY does not pass Troy over for some other more voter friendly city.
There's enough phony politicians along with there pets and farm animals to fill Noah's Ark or the Titanic Choose your poison.
You get what who they vote for not ( You get what you pay for )
I hope the Voters don't get duped this time around.

  11. Explain to me how a criminal complaint is being investigated by an outside law firm at taxpayer expenses rather than the DAs office! What are the administration and the police hiding?

    1. Because there are too many conflicts of interest with City employees, that's why. Another policy that's been neglected for years. DA's office has an established relationship with the TPD. An unbiased party had to be used.

  12. Lou..I saw the story on TV about the water situation and the absentee landlords and can only suggest that you let one of your staff handle this kind of case. People like this are not worth your time. He is not going to make Troy a better place to live so IGNORE HIM.

  17. It is a very sad world we live in when a public figure can make these type of statements and have the have the utter disrespect to spell America the way she did. No one will deny that discrimination happened along with the horrible treatment of African-Americans but everyone needs to also remember that it was white people who fought to free African-Americans and many lost their lives. How can we all heal when we continue to carry so much hatred in our hearts? The time to move forward is now. We will always remember our past, and that is ok but it is not ok to continue to carry a grudge. Healing begins in the heart.

    1. Because there still is racism in the City of Troy.

      Delete
    2. Yea, she is the racist.

      Delete
    3. Racism still exists everywhere. Not just against African-Americans, but all ethnic backgrounds. The reason racism still exists is because we as people of all ethnic backgrounds will not let it die. The media sensationalizes stories by adding a victim's or perpetrator's ethnic background to the story. Why is that important? The focus should be on the incident. I am not saying that racist actions do not occur, but let's not jump to conclusions before we have the facts. If someone is guilty of a "hate" action, then they need to be brought to justice, but not not by the media and the public, by the law. Racism will always be a problem if we let it. Before you rush to judgement and think that's fine for me to say because I have never been discriminated against, I am here to tell you I have. I just chose to take the high road and work to stop this the right way. I hope more people will join me.
