Troy suspends Parks and Rec. Department head (UPDATED)

ROGERS

George Rogers, head of the Troy Parks and Recreation Department, was suspended for five days, according to sources.
Because it is a personal issue, city spokesman Michael Morris would only say Rogers is still employed by the city.
At Monday’s budget hearing, Rogers was critical of Mayor Lou Rosamilia’s proposed spending plan that cuts the Parks and Recreation Department by $161,217 from $2,220,293 to $2,081,455. Two positions are eliminated from the budget, a $32,089 a year laborer and a $54,796 working foreman.
Rogers was upset with his budget getting cut after getting reprimanded for going over budget the last two years. Seems he was also none to happy that many of the seasonal positions - more than was in his budget - were either going to political hacks or the friends and family thereof.

So, at Monday's budget meeting, to offset the costs, Rogers said some people should "grow a set" and up the fees for those using the city's recreational facilities.

When Rosamilia questioned who specifically he was referring to Rogers pointed at Deputy Mayor Pete Ryan.

The deputy mayor did in fact "grow a set" and suspended Rogers for five days without pay.

  16. The real question is whether Jill Kehn is going to withdraw from the city court judge race now that we know she was practicing law without a license for six years. If shes elected she'll just get thrown off the bench anyway, the judicial conduct committee is already sharpening the blades for her! Withdraw now and save the taxpayers the money and embarrassment, Jill.

    2. Good morning Mrs. Gorman. You are right Mrs Kehn at some point will be taken from the bench. Then your new BFF Tom Wade will do the right thing he will go to his phone remembering the election and who ran he will then pick up his phone and he will call the new appointees who he will reward for all his hard work running for city court judge and he will call Ian Silverman and will appoint him to the bench. However your phone will ring it will be Rodney Wiltshire calling to guarantee your husband the corporate counsel position if he'll help in his campaign. Then your phone will ring againit will be rabbit Riley and Kevin McGrath just to say I told you so and that Tom Wade would screw you in the end. A little while later Robert Cox your new Consigliere Will call to let you know your new custom fit state-of-the-art aluminum foil official head garb is in and he will be stopping by to make sure they fit properly. From that point forward you will trust no one again you will here strange clicks on your phone you will notice strange men and trenchcoats and weird hats following you. The "delusional bunch" will then give you your Seating arrangements for cigar Saturdays at Congress and 4th street. Soon after long-term friendships and friendly acquaintances will no longer be trusted you will find yourselfs never trust anyone again. Rodney will lose and ulcers will start. Welcome to the New World order of the Troy Democratic party. We are so happy to have you here now

  17. So let me get this straight, our sanctimonious and prudish mayor will not allow someone to use the term balls, but allows a sexual predator to roam the corridors of City Hall.

  19. How is it the City can afford giving all the Mayors Office staff raises, buy a new building for the police department, give police more money for overtime but yet cut part time jobs where they have no health benefits or unlimited sick time and are actually hurting the residents. Where is The logic?

  30. Many seem to forget how Parks & Recs used to be run like a 'cottage industry'. Sorry George put some check & balances in place to stop the nonsense. Don't know what parks you think look shitty, so you must have Troy confused with Cohoes.

  31. Every softball field IS shitty-take a ride past the fields by the 6th hole at Frear-15 inch creaters in the infield-been that way for 5 years now- look at 112th st field-tennis gone at knicks-those fields nowhere in the condition they used to be-but he knows how to make his many stops to the Snowman. Does he even know where the golf course is. That place was a mess until we got a new Mayor and deputy. So sorry 5:30 am-look a little closer
